PDF to image conversion
Choose JPG or PNG by what happens after conversion
This tool renders each PDF page as an image and packs the images into a ZIP. It does not create Word, Excel or PowerPoint files. The important choice is not simply JPG versus PNG; it is whether a picture of the page is actually what you need.
Use JPG for
Photo-heavy pages, compact previews and situations where smaller image files matter more than perfectly crisp edges.
Use PNG for
Screenshots, diagrams, fine lines and text-heavy graphics where sharper edges are worth a larger file.
Keep PDF for
Selectable text, live links, forms, bookmarks, certificate-based signatures and multi-page document structure.
What the browser does page by page
PDF.js renders each page to a canvas at the quality you choose. The canvas is saved as JPG or PNG, then JSZip packages the results. A 20-page PDF therefore becomes 20 image files inside one ZIP.
- Open the original PDF and note its page count.
- Choose JPG or PNG.
- Choose rendering quality based on the smallest detail you must preserve.
- Convert the pages and extract the ZIP.
- Check the first, middle and last images at the size they will actually be used.
The conversion removes document behavior
| PDF feature | After page-to-image conversion |
|---|---|
| Visible page appearance | Rendered into pixels |
| Selectable/searchable text | Lost as live text |
| Links and bookmarks | Not interactive |
| Form fields | Flattened visually, not usable as fields |
| Digital signature validation | Not preserved as the original certificate-based signature |
A page image can look identical while being a very different file.
If the recipient needs to search, fill, click or validate the document, send the PDF instead.
Quality problems have two different causes
The source was already weak
If tiny letters are blurred in the PDF, a higher export setting cannot invent detail that is missing. Rescan or obtain a better source when possible.
The render setting is too low
Try PNG or a higher render scale for thin lines and small labels. For photographs, JPG may remain visually acceptable at a much smaller size.
Large documents and browser memory
Rendering dozens of high-resolution pages can consume a lot of memory, especially on phones. If you only need a few pages, split them first. A 40 MB input limit does not mean every complex 40 MB document will render comfortably on every device.
File handling
The PDF is read and rendered in your browser. PDFNexa does not receive the document. PDF.js and other libraries are downloaded by the webpage, while the selected file remains local to the browser processing workflow.
