Page extraction
Split only what the recipient actually needs
This workspace creates one or more new PDFs from page groups you define. It is useful for extracting a chapter, separating attachments, or sending only the relevant pages instead of an entire document.
Start with page positions, not printed page numbers
If your viewer says page 12 while the footer printed on that page says 7, the Split tool follows the PDF’s actual file order. Check thumbnails first, especially in reports with covers, Roman numerals or appendices.
Range examples: 1-3, 4, 5-8
Each comma-separated group becomes a separate PDF.
Three reasons splitting is better than sending the whole PDF
Privacy minimization
Send only the pages the recipient needs instead of exposing unrelated sections.
Portal requirements
Extract the certificate, appendix or form page when an upload system asks for separate documents.
Smaller working files
A short excerpt is easier to review, convert or OCR than a large scan.
Do not split blindly around signatures or forms
A certificate-based signature applies to a document state. Extracting pages creates a new PDF, so do not present the result as if it were the original signed document.
A useful extraction workflow
- Open the original with thumbnails.
- Write down the actual PDF positions you need.
- Enter one or more groups.
- Download the PDF or ZIP output.
- Open every result and verify its first and last page.
Common mistakes
- The wrong pages were extracted
- You probably used printed numbering instead of actual file position.
- A back side is missing
- Two-sided scans are easy to overlook. Review each source page around the boundary.
- The recipient says the signature is invalid
- The split result is a new document. Use the original signed file when validation matters.
- The ZIP contains more files than expected
- Each comma-separated group becomes its own PDF.
File handling
PDF-Lib copies the selected pages into new PDFs inside your browser. The source PDF is not uploaded to PDFNexa.
