How it works: local filtering with VpnService
Firewall No Root uses Android’s official VpnService API to filter network traffic locally on your device. The app creates a local connection to itself, routes traffic through the firewall and then decides whether to allow or block each connection. Traffic is not tunnelled to a remote VPN server and is not forwarded to third-party servers.

Because VpnService is used, Android may show a “VPN” indicator while the firewall is active. This is expected for local filtering. Firewall No Root is not a traditional VPN service; it uses VpnService for on-device filtering and permission control.

Core firewall features are available free of charge and without advertising. An optional in-app purchase unlocks additional convenience features and supports ongoing development, without forcing you into a subscription.

Only one app can use Android’s VpnService at a time. If another VPN or firewall app is active, you need to choose which one to use. Blocking connectivity can affect app functions: messengers need internet to receive messages, and video or music apps need internet to stream. If something stops working, allow the app again or switch the rule to Wi-Fi only.

Firewall No Root does not replace operating system security updates and cannot guarantee protection against every threat, but it can help reduce unnecessary background connections, lower data usage and give you clearer control over app internet access.
